Maths Session 1 : Statistics
Maths Session 1
Welcome readers to the very first Maths Session. I am glad the blog is involving around your opinions so I have now decided to teach you Maths instead of making you struggle with tough Mathematical Problems every week. Anyway last week the winner was Fikun with an answer of 43. Congratulations your the new King of Maths. To start of I am going to tell you our topic which is Statistics.
Statistics
At the end of the session you should be able to determine range, median, mode and mean from discrete data.
Averages ( The Mean )
The mean is also known as the common average. To find the mean value of a set of data you add up all the data values then divide by how many values there are. The range is the measure of spread. It is the largest value subtracted from the smallest value.
Example: Two dice were thrown 10 times and their scores were added together and recorded. Find the mean and range for the data.
7 5 7 6 12 10 4 8 9 2
Mean = 7 ᐩ 5 ᐩ 7 ᐩ 6 ᐩ 12 ᐩ 10 ᐩ 4 ᐩ 8 ᐩ 9 ᐩ 2
10
70 = 7
10
Range = 12 - 2 = 10
Averages ( The Mode )
The mode is the data value that occurs the most frequently.
Example: The number of matches in a random sample of 14 boxes were counted and the results were recorded below. Find the mode.
48 49 52 50 51 49 49 47 48 50 51 50 50
Mode = 50 ( as it occurs more often than the other numbers )
Averages ( Median )
The median is the middle value of a set of data once the data has been ordered.
Example: Robert hit 11 balls of Grimsby driving range. The recorded distances of his drives, measured in yards are given below. Find the median.
85 125 130 65 100 70 75 50 140 95 70
50 65 70 70 75 85 95 100 125 130 140
Median = 85
So your question is:
What is the mode of the set of numbers giving below:
1 3 5 8 3 9 3 2 4 2 3 6 3
Remember to answer with your names in the comments below.
